PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK
We thank you, O God,
for the wonders of spring
For each field and garden
whose promise we sing.
Hallelujah for the season.
Hallelujah to the Lord.
Warmer days bring to life the green lawn,
Faithful servants the Word.
We thank you though we
may live far from the soil
For in cities and towns
we'll be blessed by their toil.
Hallelujah for the farmer,
For the work that grows food.
As the mornings grow warmer
Praise our God for things good! Amen.
CHURCH AND COMMUNITY NEWS
Update on the cell tower: On May 12th the Wausau City Council approved the permits needed for AT&T to build their cell tower in the back yard of the church. AT&T now has a period of 2 years to build their tower, although we believe it will most likely happen sooner rather than later.
Grace’s Willing Workers" Rummage & Bake Sale will take place on Saturday, May 30th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Items needed include clothing, books, household items, holiday decorations, trash and treasures, baked goods, etc. As you do your spring cleaning please set aside your "treasures" to donate to this sale.
Strengthen The Church…May 31, 2009
Sunday, May 31st is Pentecost Sunday! – we will be receiving Strengthen the Church, a special mission offering that helps to grow the UCC as a vibrant community of God’s love through support of the God is Still Speaking Ministry, Local Church Ministries and our local conference. Please join us and spread the love!
NEXT SUNDAY'S BIBLE READINGS
May 17, 2009
Acts 10:44-48: Peter stands before the centurion Cornelius and his family and friends and proclaims the gospel of Christ. Surprisingly, even though they are Gentiles, the Holy Spirit falls upon them; at this, Peter baptizes these Gentiles in Jesus' name.
1 John 5:1-6: Loving God means obedience to God's commandments. Through such faithful obedience, followers of Jesus have victory over the world.
John 15:9-17: In this section of final instructions to the disciples, Jesus speaks to them of the loving obedience that he expects of them, and of his high hopes for their faithfulness to him.

NEXT SUNDAY'S WORSHIP EXPERIENCES
May 17, 2009 is the 6th Sunday of Easter. The New Testament and Gospel readings for Sunday point us towards Christ’s commandment to “Love one another.” How do we carry out that love in our daily lives? How do you love someone who does horrible things?
Grace Church services are broadcast on Charter Cable Channels 96 and 98 Wednesdays 1:30-3 pm; Thursdays 7:30-9:00 pm, Fridays 6-7:30 am
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"We live in a moment of history where change is so speeded up that we begin to see the present only when it is already disappearing." R.D. Laing

WHAT CAN I DO?
Attend worship each Sunday. Pray. Usher. Provide Child Care during worship. Volunteer as a Deacon (There are a couple openings). Serve a Sunday Fellowship Time. Bring a friend or three to church and keep bringing them. Got a ministry idea you'd like to try? Give regularly to the ministry of your church.
AND FINALLY...
A five-year-old said grace at family dinner one night. "Dear God, thank you for these pancakes." When he concluded, his parents asked him why he thanked God for pancakes when they were having chicken. He smiled and said, "I thought I'd see if God was paying attention tonight."
(Note: While I intentionally want to keep this "Weekly News Post" fairly brief and simple, I am open to ideas or suggestions as to what you would like to see in this note. Let me know!)
See you in Worship !
