PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK
Lord Jesus Christ, in you we see awesome power. You triumph over death and bring forth new life. You stand over all earthly powers. You are the head of the church. Yet, we often fail to acknowledge this power in our lives. We see violence in the world. We see injustice in our communities. We see hunger and need among our neighbors. We see longing for something more. We see failures and faults in our lives. In all these things, we feel powerless. Forgive our hesitance to call upon you. Forgive our propensity to rely upon ourselves. Forgive our reluctance to acknowledge your power. Speak your words of power again. May your will may be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

NEXT SUNDAY'S BIBLE READINGS
May 24, 2009
Acts: 1:5-17: The risen Christ gathers with his disciples and commissions them to be his "witnesses" in the world, all the way to the far reaches of the earth.
1 John 5:9-13: First John speaks of Jesus as the "testimony of God." In Christ, we see revealed who God really is.
John 17:6-19: Jesus prays to his Father before he prepares to leave his disciples, asking his Father to protect his disciples and to continue to love them and be with them.

NEXT SUNDAY'S WORSHIP EXPERIENCES
May 24, 2009 is the 7th Sunday of Easter; the Sunday just after Christ’s Ascencion. We will be using a different approach during worship. It will be more of a dialogue, and I will be asking YOU to share your own reflections on the scriptures for the day. So be sure to read them ahead of time! Bible version doesn’t matter.
Grace Church services are broadcast on Charter Cable Channels 96 and 98 Wednesdays 1:30-3 pm; Thursdays 7:30-9:00 pm, Fridays 6-7:30 am

WHAT CAN I DO?
Attend worship each Sunday. Pray. Usher. Provide Child Care during worship. Volunteer as a Deacon (There are a couple openings). Serve a Sunday Fellowship Time. Bring a friend or three to church and keep bringing them. Got a ministry idea you'd like to try? Give regularly to the ministry of your church.
AND FINALLY...
One weekend a Sunday school teacher told her class the story of the Three Trees.
In it, each of the trees wished to grow big and strong. The first wanted to become an ornate treasure chest; the second, a majestic sailing vessel; the third, the tallest tree in the forest.
One day a woodsman entered the forest and felled all three trees.
The first was made into a plain box; the second, into a simple dory; the third, cut into lumber.
The children all understood the disappointment of the trees.
But, continued the teacher. "The first tree became the manger for Baby Jesus; the second was the boat from which Jesus preached and performed miracles, and the third was made into a cruel instrument of torture..."
An incredulous voice interrupted, "The bagpipes?"
(Note: While I intentionally want to keep this "Weekly News Post" fairly brief and simple, I am open to ideas or suggestions as to what you would like to see in this note. Let me know!)
See you in Worship !
Green Knee Ride to a Green Meeting at Green Lake
This summer’s Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Conference at the Green Lake Conference Center offers a nice convergence of themes. First, the theme of our meeting is God’s Creation and the Environment. We are trying to have things be as “green” as possible for our meeting.
Secondly, I am completing about 9 months of re-hab from a knee rebuild surgery late last summer. I missed some of the best biking days of the summer and fall, and I am looking to make up for lost time.
What better way to “go green” to the Annual Meeting and to continue to strengthen my “green knee” than for the old Conference Minister to bike to the Annual Meeting!
I’ll be riding from my home in Waunakee to the Green Lake Conference Center on June 10. The ride will be 70 miles.
I’d like to invite you to join in and support the ride. Here’s how:
• Invite people in your church to pledge a per-mile amount to the Conference Minister’s “Green Knee” ride. Like any ride, people can pledge $.25, $.50, $1.00/ mile or whatever they like.
• Whatever your church receives in pledges, it will keep half and send the other half to the Conference as a special offering. You use your half for whatever project you choose.
